Brisbane Bullets Secure WNBL Bid with Angel Reese Ownership

Brisbane Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts announced that WNBA star Angel Reese has joined the ownership group of the NBL's Brisbane Bullets. Reese's investment will back efforts by team ownership to secure a bid for the 10th franchise in Australia's WNBL. The WNBL last expanded in August 2025 by announcing the addition of a ninth team in Tasmania. The league reportedly plans to add one more team ahead of the start of the 2026-27 season. Reese previously joined the ownership group of the DC Power Football Club, a professional women's soccer team playing in the USL's Gainbridge Super League, in 2024. She has previously been connected with Australian professional basketball through her footwear partnership with Reebok, which announced a new partnership with the WNBL in the wake of the launch of the Angel Reese 1 in February. Reese is a fantastic ambassador for basketball and a globally recognized superstar, according to Watts. Basketball is Queensland's fastest growing sport, and having Angel involved as we pursue a WNBL team is a huge asset, Watts said. The WNBL is expected to add one more team ahead of the start of the 2026-27 season, with the league reportedly planning to expand to 10 teams. The addition of a new team will provide more opportunities for players and fans alike, and will help to grow the popularity of women's professional basketball in Australia.
